Farmer from Žminj - The world of the farmer in the Žminj region, was often considered a model on which individual and collective identities in Istria were based. Everyday life on and off the land, with livestock, family and social relationships are an inexhaustible source of the understanding of the local traditional culture and regional identity today.
The contemporary way of life began to enter the Istrian villages intensively in the second half of the 20th century. Although the elements of the material culture that we connect to the time when oxen did the work of tractors have lost their useful function, they have continued to live on a symbolic level to this day. This represents a connection to the experienced, retold and imagined past: with the time and people that we identify with “our tradition.”
