Woman from Ćićarija - The population of other parts of Istria considered Ćići to be isolated and poor. This is due to natural barriers preventing constant and dynamic communication but also to a different cultural background. Ćićarija was most densely populated at the beginning of the 20th century – when it had 8,243 inhabitants. This time was most significant for growth in the population because up to a dozen children were born in the average family.
